Known as the “Rainha Do Fado” (Queen of Fado), Amália Rodrigues was a legendary singer in the Fado. Never before the Portuguese language sound as universal as when sang by Amália. Her voice is expressive, flexible, extremely appealing, even to those who do not understand Portuguese. In France she became almost as popular as in Portugal. She performed at the prestigious Parisian Olympia hall and the legendary Bonino theatre. Charles Aznavour even wrote a Fado in French especially for her, “Aie Mourir Pour Toi”, and she also created French versions of her own songs. Rodrigues can be heard here in optimal environs, with just the sound of her passionate voice and Fado guitar duo Domingos Camarinha and Santos Moreira.
